It's a crazy weekend in Bend when the Pole Pedal Paddle takes place. From their website: "It's a relay race, with six legs that include alpine
skiing/snowboarding, cross-country skiing, biking, running,
canoe/kayaking and sprinting to the finish! You can do it all yourself
or be part of team (or pair). We invite you to take part in the
festivities and enjoy Central Oregon." It's also a fundraiser for the MBSEF (Mount Bachelor Sports Education Foundation). The big competition is on Saturday, yet growing bigger each year is the Mini PPP - the kid version. Kids form teams and have a blast doing a mini version of the main race.
We think of it as one of the wonderful, unique, beautiful facts about Central Oregon. You CAN snow ski/board, bike ride, canoe/kayak, and run all within the same 25 mile span. Truthfully, it wouldn't have to be that spread out, but it's fun to have everything ending right in town. Right at the coolest outdoor music amphitheater and across the river from riverfront shopping and dining at the Old Mill.
Lots of out-of-towners here this weekend, so we expect some home-viewing action. It's inevitable... people visit and shortly thereafter they want to move here.
